The focus
of our applied research is on
solving practical problems
experienced by an individual,
team or organisation in the
workplace.
We are a
solution-focused company and
employ a comprehensive,
efficient research process to
meet the specific requirements
of our clients. We have
particular expertise in
developing bespoke methodologies
to support the capture of
qualitative and quantitative
data.
Our applied
research work is varied and our
staff have extensive knowledge
and experience of conducting
large scale organisational
surveys as well as studies that
involve small sample sizes, case
studies, focus groups and
individual interviews.
We have conducted research for a
wide range of
organisational domains including
rail, defence, road
transport and the emergency
services. Our research projects
have included:
-
Investigation into
pre-driver education good
practice, to
identify appropriate content
and effective delivery
strategies to improve road-safety for
young people both in and out
of the car, conducted for
the Department for Transport
-
Identification of
the route knowledge and situation
awareness
requirements of
train
drivers
(with consideration of
different train operations,
environmental variables and
individual factors),
description of competency
and supporting knowledge
requirements, analysis of
train driver training and
assessment strategies, and
evaluation of the
implications and risks to
performance associated with
new technologies such as the
European Rail Traffic
Management System (ERTMS)
-
Preliminary research on behalf of the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) into the broad range of variables, including environmental, job- or task-based, and individual factors, which can affect how competency is retained in the workplace (we
are developing a body of research and project experience in individual and team competency deterioration (skill fade); further information is available on the
competency management page and in the
library)
-
Determining how networking can
enhance
military capability,
including peace keeping,
as part of Roke Manor's Team Reach consortium,
performing research into Network
Enabled Capability (NEC) on
behalf of
the UK MoD’s Research
Acquisition Organisation (RAO).
